Miniature circular cupro-nickel medal on claw and ribbon bar suspension; the face with the crowned head of Queen Elizabeth II facing right, circumscribed ‘ELIZABETH II DEI GRATIA REGINA CANADA’ (Elizabeth II, by the Grace of God Queen Canada); the reverse inscribed ‘THE GULF / AND KUWAIT / 1990-1991 / LE GOLFE ET / KOWEIT’ above a maple leaf and within a laurel wreath; diameter 18.86mm (0.74 inch); on original ribbon.
The Medal was instituted on 2 August 1990 to be awarded to members of the Canadian armed forces who had served in the Gulf War theatre for thirty consecutive days between 2 August 1990 and 27 June 1991.
Just over four thousand full-size medals were issued.
