Miniature circular white metal medal on scroll and ribbon bar suspension bearing a maple leaf; the face with a representation of the three Canadian Peacekeeping figures from the Peacekeeping Monument in Ottawa, a dove above, maple leaves to either side, circumscribed ‘PEACEKEEPING SERVICE DE LA PAIX’; the reverse with a maple leaf centrally bearing the crowned cipher of Queen Elizabeth II within a laurel wreath, inscribed ‘CANADA’ below; diameter 18.57mm (0.73 inch); on original ribbon.
The Medal was instituted on 6 September 2000 to be awarded to members of the Canadian armed forces for a minimum of 30 days’ cumulative service in a United Nations or international peacekeeping mission.
The Medal may also be awarded to members of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police and other Canadian police forces and to civilians serving with the military on peace-keeping missions.
