Miniature circular silvered medal on claw and ribbon bar suspension; the face with a maple leaf centrally within a laurel wreath; the reverse with the crowned EIIR cipher of Queen Elizabeth II centrally, circumscribed ‘BRAVERY BRAVOURE’, laurel leaves at the base; diameter 18.41mm (0.725 inch); on original ribbon.
The Medal was instituted on 1 May 1972 and is awarded to recognise ‘acts of bravery in hazardous circumstances’.
To date, just over three thousand full-size awards have been made.
