Miniature oval silver and silver-gilt skeletal badge with loop and original wire suspension bar; the face with the gilt cipher of King and Emperor George V centrally within a ring inscribed ‘COLONIAL AUXILIARY FORCES’, the outer edge beaded, a gilt imperial crown above; the reverse plain; height 27.82mm (1.1 inches), width 15.71mm (0.62 inch); on original ribbon with silver ‘CANADA’ bar. The Decoration was instituted on 18 May 1899 to be awarded to officers for 20 years’ meritorious service in the militia in the colonies other than India with service in the ranks counting half and service in West Africa counting double. The Decoration became obsolete in 1931 having been awarded in very small numbers throughout its existence.
