Miniature gilt-edged blue enamel cross pattée with laterally pierced ball and ring with silver hallmark for ribbon suspension; the face with a circular central gilt medallion with the head of Simón José Antonio de la Santísima Trinidad Bolívar y Palacios Ponte y Blanco (Simón Bolívar) encircled by a blue enamel ring inscribed in gilt letters ‘ORDEN DE BOYACA’; the reverse with a circular central blue enamel medallion inscribed in gilt letters ‘REPUBLICA DE COLOMBIA’; diameter 14.34mm (0.56 inch); slight loss of blue enamel fro the lower edges of the ring of the face; on original ribbon with pasador gilt top bar with pin for wear and with rosette on gold thread ground indicating an award of the Grand Cross grade. The Order was instituted in six classes in 1927, replacing the Centennial Cross of Boyaca that had been created on 8 August 1919 by Presidential Decree No. 1667, to be awarded for exceptional services to international relations and to the armed forces of Colombia. Boyacá was the scene of the definitive triumph of the Revolutionaries over Spanish Monarchist forces on 7 August 1819 and led directly to the independence of the countries of South America.
