Miniature oval silver medal on swivel crown suspension: the face with the head of Prince Regent Luitpold in relief facing left, circumscribed ‘LUITPOLD PRINZ-REGENT VON BAYERN’, a sprig of laurel at the base, ribbons above left and right dated ‘1821’ and ‘1911’ respectively; the reverse with the crowned arms of Bavaria centrally, circumscribed above ‘IN TREUE FEST’ (Steadfast and True) and dated ‘19’ ‘05’ to either side; diameter 14.3mm (0.56 inch); on original parade-mounted ribbon. The medal was instituted on 24 February 1911 by Prince Regent Luitpold on the occasion of his ninetieth birthday as a higher award of merit and commemoration than that instituted on 30th June 1905 without crown and was given with a certificate intended to remain with the descendants of the recipients as a reminder of the accolade. The medal ceased to be awarded after the death of Prince Regent Luitpold on 12 December 1912.
