Miniature circular silver-gilt medal with partial oak leaf border and with laterally-pierced cball suspension and ribbon ring; the face with the insignia of the Order of the Three Stars of a Maltese cross with ball-tipped finials, rays between the arms and a circular central medallion bearing three stars; the reverse inscribed ‘PAR T?VIJU’ (For the Fatherland) above a flaming heart; diameter 14.82mm (0.58 inch); lacking ribbon.
The Order was founded in 1924 and was awarded in recognition of outstanding civil merit in the service of Latvia. The Order was suppressed after the Soviet invasion of 1940 but restored after Latvia regained its independence in 1991.
This example dates from the 1924-1940 period and came from the workshops of De Greef of Brussels.
