Miniature circular bronze medal with laterally-pierced lug suspension; the face with the emblem of the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation (NATO), being a four-pointed faceted star imposed on a circle within a laurel wreath; the reverse with laurel leaves centrally, inscribed above ‘IN SERVICE OF PEACE AND FREEDOM’ and below ‘AU SERVICE DE LA PAIX ET DE LA LIBERTE’, circumscribed ‘NORTH ATLANTIC TREATY ORGANIZATION ORGANISATION DU TRAITE DE L’ATLANTIQUE NORD’; diameter 17.91mm (0.7 inch); on original ribbon with bronze ‘FORMER YUGOSLAVIA’ bar.
The Medal was instituted in June 1992 and awarded for 30 days’ service in the NATO peace-keeping force deployed in the former Yugoslavia and in particular Croatia and Bosnia.
