Circular cupro-nickel medal with fern-leaf ribbon suspender; the face with the head of King George VI facing left, circumscribed ‘GEORGIVS VI D: G: BR: OMN: REX F: D: IND: IMP. (George VI by the Grace of God King of Great Britain, Defender of the Faith, Emperor of India); the reverse inscribed ‘FOR / SERVICE TO / NEW ZEALAND’ and dated ‘1939-1945’ above a fern leaf; light surface marks; on original ribbon. The medal was instituted on 30 September 1948 and awarded for a total of 28 days’ full-time service or six months' part-time service in the Armed Forces of New Zealand, the National Military Reserve or Home Guard between 3 September 1939 and 2 September 1945. A good example.
