Miniature Pair: ***United Kingdom General Service Medal (Campaign Service Medal) 1962 with ‘Northern Ireland’ clasp. Miniature circular silver medal with ornate scrolled ribbon suspension bar; the face with the crowned head of Queen Elizabeth II facing right, circumscribed ‘ELIZABETH II DEI GRATIA REGINA F.D.’ (Elizabeth II by the Grace of God Queen Defender of the Faith); the reverse inscribed centrally ‘FOR CAMPAIGN SERVICE’, a Tudor crown above, all within an oak wreath; diameter 18.54mm (0.73 inch); on original ribbon with ‘Northern Ireland’ clasp. The medal was instituted in 1964 to be awarded for participation in conflicts since 1962 where a separate campaign medal was not issued. The Northern Ireland clasp was awarded to personnel involved in operations in Northern Ireland. The general qualifying period was a minimum of 30 days’ service - not necessarily consecutive - between 14 August 1969 and 31 July 2007. Service cut short by injury or death automatically qualified the recipient for the clasp. ***Oman General Service Medal with ‘Dhofar’ bar. Miniature circular gilt bronze medal with fixed suspension bar; the face with the national emblem of the Sultanate of Oman, circumscribed above and below in Arabic script; the reverse with a mountainous landscape, an inscription above in Arabic script, a palm wreath below; diameter 18.50mm (0.73 inch); on original ribbon with ‘Dhofar’ bar. The medal was instituted by Sultan Qaboos bin Said in 1976 at the end of the Dhofar Rebellion which had begun in 1962 for service in Dhofar. ***The pair is brooch-mounted for wear.
