Miniature circular bronze medal with laterally-pierced ball suspension; the face with a circular central medallion imposed on a cross pattée alisée with laurel wreath between the arms bearing a full-length female figure, a shield, its point resting on the ground, in her left hand, a writing instrument in her right hand as she inscribes a stone slab; the reverse with a circular central medallion imposed on a cross pattée alisée with laurel wreath between the arms bearing the arms of Panama; diameter 17.79mm (0.7 inch); on replaced correct ribbon. The medal was instituted in 1918 in gold for Commanders-in-Chief of the Allied forces, in silver for senior officers and in bronze for other ranks as a mark of solidarity, Panama having declared war on Germany on 7 April 1917, the day after the U.S.A., her participation in the event very limited. It was reported that Panama presented one hundred medals in all to each of the Allied countries and the medal is thus rare. A good period miniature.
