Miniature circular gilt medal with loop for ribbon suspension; the face with the full length figure of a helmeted soldier, his right arm raised, a rifle in his left hand, a female figure to his right, a male figure to his left, all imposed on a five-pointed star bearing a clock tower surmounted by a five-pointed star, radiant five pointed stars to either side, a laurel wreath below, the dates ‘1945 1985’ above; the reverse inscribed in Cyrillic characters ‘40 LET POBEDI V VELIKOI OTECHESTVENNOI VOINE 1941-1945 rr.’ (40 Years of Victory in the Great Patriotic War 1941-1945), a hammer and sickle below above a ribbon, circumscribed above ‘UCHASTNIKU VOINI’ (participant in war = combatant); diameter 19.25mm (0.76 inch); on original ribbon.
The Medal was instituted on 12 April 1985 and awarded to all surviving participants of the Great Patriotic War (World War II), one in a series of decenniel medals.
