Miniature silver gilt and red enamel cross pattée with silver-gilt filigree between the arms and with loop for ribbon suspension; the pace with a circular central polychrome enamel medallion bearing the full-length figure of St. Anne standing in a field, trees in the background; the reverse with a circular central white enamel medallion bearing the crowned letters ‘A J P F’ (for Amantibus Justitiam Pietatem Fidem - Latin = to Lovers of Justice, Piety and Faith); diameter 15.37mm (0.6 inch); lacking ribbon. The Order was founded in 1735 by Karl-Friedrich, Duke of Holstein-Gottorp in commemoration of his wife Anna Petrovna, daughter of Tsar Peter I (Peter the Great). The Order became part of the Imperial Russian system of Orders on 15 April 1797 and Membership of the Order was granted for distinguished public service. A very good example.
