Miniature silver Maltese cross with stippled arms and with laterally-pierced ball suspension; the face with a circular central red enamel medallion bearing the inscription in gilt letters ‘For Mercy’ circumscribed ‘For Tending the Wounded and the Sick 1912’; the reverse with a circular central red enamel medallion bearing the Serbian royal arms; diameter 20.78mm (0.82 inch); on replaced correct ribbon. The Cross was instituted by King Peter I Karađorđević on 7 (19) June 1913 to be awarded to those who had tended the sick and wounded of the First Balkan War of 1912-1913. It could be awarded to Serbians and non-Serbians alike, to military and civilians and to Red Cross volunteers. Miniatures of the Cross are very rare.
