Gilt stickpin with miniature gilt-edged red enamel Greek cross with gilt civic crown above; the face with an imposed circular central medallion in red, white and blue enamel and gilt metal bearing an escutcheon quarterly of Castile and Léon with Granada overall; the reverse plain; height 9.35mm (0.37 inch); on correct possibly replaced ribbon. The Order was created by Queen Isabel II in 1864 for military merit. The cross is of white enamel in times of peace, and of red in times of war. This is an older example, probably from the period 1938 to 1943, and either for service in the Spanish Civil War or with German forces in Soviet Russia.
