Miniature circular bronze medal with laterally-pierced lug for ribbon suspension; the face with an eagle with wings outstretched perched on a ring enclosing a five pointed star charged with a central disc, a ribbon above between the eagle’s wings inscribed ‘MERITORIOUS SERVICE,’, circumscribed ‘AIR RESERVE’ to the left and ‘FORCES’ between two flight symbols to the right, all on a ground of thirteen rays; the reverse with a stylised cloud with wings and lightning bolts, inscribed ‘TO’ below, circumscribed ‘EXEMPLARY BEHAVIOR • EFFICIENCY • FIDELITY’; diameter 17.92mm (0.7 inch; on original ribbon with brooch bar mounted for wear with maker’s mark ‘H.L.P. / GI’ (for His Lordship’s Products Inc. of Hauppauge, New York). The Medal was instituted by Secretary of the Air Force Eugene M. Zuckert on 1 April 1964 as a ribbon award and converted to a medal on 2 November 1971 by Secretary of the Air Force Robert C. Seamans Jr. To be awarded for exemplary behavior, efficiency, and fidelity during four years continuous enlisted service in the United States Air Reserve Forces, amended to three years since 1 July 1975.
