Miniature circular gilt medal on laterally-pierced ball suspension; the face with the badge of the Uganda Police centrally, being a crested crane within a stylised oval laurel wreath, a ribbon below inscribed ‘UGANDA POLICE’, circumscribed above ‘1905 • POLICE JUBILEE • 1955’; the reverse with crossed truncheons imposed on a circular laurel wreath and a map of Uganda, circumscribed below ‘UGANDA POLICE•’; diameter 18.49mm (0.73 inch); without ribbon. The Ugandan Armed Constabulary was formed in 1899 and renamed the Protectorate Police Force when in 1905 control of the affairs of the Uganda Protectorate passed from the British Foreign Office to the Colonial Office. When the Uganda Police Force celebrated its fifth anniversary, its ranks had grown from 975 men of all ranks to 1,331 officers and 3,709 other ranks.
