Miniature octagonal cupro-nickel medal with laterally-pierced ball and loop for ribbon suspension; the face with the head and shoulders portrait of President Idi Amin Dada facing left, circumscribed above ‘REPUBLIC OF UGANDA MEDAL’; the reverse inscribed ‘FOR / DISTINGUISHED / SERVICE / TO THE STATE / 9•10•1962-25•1•1971’; diameter 17.31mm (0.68 inch); without ribbon. The Medal was instituted by President Idi Amin Dada and presented to those he considered had rendered distinguished service to Uganda between independence on 9 October 1962 and his military coup on 25 January 1971. The Medal was suppressed after the fall of Amin on 11 April 1979
