Unusual and Rare Miniature Group of Four. ***India General Service Medal 1936-1939 with ‘North West Frontier 1936-37’ clasp. Miniature circular silver medal with claw and ornate swivel scroll ribbon bar with original ‘NORTH WEST FRONTIER 1936-37’ clasp; the face with the crowned head of King George VI facing left, circumscribed ‘GEORGIUS VI D: G: BR: OMN: REX ET INDIAE IMP: (George VI by the Grace of God King of Great Britain and Emperor of India); the reverse with a tiger above a mountainous landscape, circumscribed ‘INDIA’ above; diameter 18.34mm (0.72 inch). The medal was instituted on 3 August 1938 to be awarded for minor campaigns in India. It was awarded for actions from 1936 and was not awarded after the outbreak of World War II. The ‘North West Frontier 1936-37’ clasp was awarded for full-time active service in two very precisely defined areas between 24 November 1936 and 16 December 1937 during the revolt in Waziristan. ***War Medal 1939-1945. Miniature circular cupro-nickel medal with claw and ribbon bar suspension; the face with the crowned head of King George VI facing left, circumscribed ‘GEORGIVS VI D: G: BR: OMN: REX F: D: IND: IMP: (George VI by the Grace of God King of Great Britain, Defender of the Faith, Emperor of India); the reverse with a triumphant lion standing on a prostrate dragon, dated ‘1939 1945’ above right; diameter 18.61mm (0.73 inch). The medal was instituted in 1945 and was awarded to all full-time members of the armed forces who had served at least 28 days between the outbreak of war (3 September 1939) and V.J. Day (2 September 1945). ***India Service Medal 1939-1945. Miniature circular cupro nickel medal with claw and ribbon suspension bar; the face with the crowned head of King and Emperor George VI facing left, circumscribed ‘GEORGIVS VI D: G: BR: OMN: REX ET INDIAE IMP: (George VI by the grace of God King of Great Britain and Emperor of India), signed ‘P M’; the reverse with a relief map of (then) India, inscribed ‘INDIA’ above and dated ‘1939-45’ below; diameter 18.37mm (0.72 inch). The medal was instituted in 1945 and awarded to members of the Indian armed forces for three years non-operational service in India, effectively replacing the Defence Medal for Indian troops. ***Uganda Independence Medal 1962. Circular silvered metal medal on scroll and laterally-pierced ball suspension; the face with the crowned head of Queen Elizabeth II facing right, circumscribed ‘QUEEN ELIZABETH II’; the reverse with the arms of Uganda, circumscribed ‘UGANDA INDEPENDENCE 9TH OCTOBER 1962’. The medal was instituted to mark the independence of Uganda and awarded ‘to give recognition to individuals of the Armed Forces, Police Force and Local Government. Members of the military and police serving on the 9 October 1962 and civil servants, local government employees and other residents of Uganda who have rendered outstanding public service’. ***The group is mounted on original ribbons and original bar with pin for wear.
