Miniature circular gilt bronze medal with scroll and ribbon bar suspension with ‘KOREA’ clasp; the face with the symbol of the United Nations, being a map of the world within a laurel wreath; the reverse inscribed ‘FOR SERVICE IN / DEFENCE OF THE / PRINCIPLES OF THE / CHARTER OF THE / UNITED NATIONS’; diameter 18.17mm (0.71 inch); on original ribbon. The medal was established by the United Nations on 12 December 1950, the first international award of its kind, to be awarded to the members of the multi-national forces who participated in the Korean War between 27 June 1950 and 27 July 1954.
