Miniature silvered medal with eyelet for ribbon suspension; the face with the head and shoulders portrait in relief of Pope Pius XII facing left, circumscribed ‘PIUS XII PONT MAXIMUS’ (Latin = ‘Supreme Pontiff’); the reverse with a view of the Basilica of St. Peter’s, Rome, a scrolled plaque below inscribed ‘BASILICA / DI S. PIETRO’; diameter 18.14mm (0.71 inch); wear to silvering; on replaced ribbon in the Papal colours. Pius XII was Pope from 2 March 1939 until his death on 9 October 1958.
