Miniature circular gilt medal with laterally-pierced loop for ribbon suspension; the face with the Papal arms, being a papal triple tiara on crossed keys, two escutcheons below, the tops sloping outwards, that on the left bearing the arms of Pope Gregory XVI, institutor of the Order of Saint Gregory the Great in 1831, that on the right bearing the arms of Pope Pius XI, Pope in 1931 on the centenary of the founding of the order, circumscribed ‘MDCCCXXXI ORDO SANCT. GREGORII MAGNI MCMXXXI PRO DEO ET PRINCIPE’ (1831 Order of Saint Gregory the Great 1931 for God and Prince); the reverse with the image of the breast star of the Order; diameter 12.91mm (0.51 inch); on possibly replaced ribbon. The Medal was produced to mark the Centenary of the Institution of the Order of Saint Gregory the Great in 1931.
