Miniature circular cupro-nickel medal with claw and ribbon bar suspension; the face with a circular central medallion bearing crossed African shields imposed on crossed spears, a cockerel erect centrally, an axe in its right claw, within a ring inscribed ‘FOR DISTINGUISHED CONDUCT’; the reverse with the arms of the Republic of Kenya; diameter 18.1mm (0.71 inch); on original ribbon. The Medal was instituted in 1966 to be awarded for distinguished conduct. This example dates from after the period of the presidency of Daniel Arap Moi, 1978 to 2002, during which his effigy appeared on the reverse in the place of the arms of the Republic.
