Miniature circular gilt insignia with loop to the reverse for ribbon suspension; the face with a radiant circular central medallion bearing a cockerel erect, an axe in its right claw, within a black enamel ring; the reverse plain gilt; diameter 19.7mm (0.77 inch); without ribbon. The Order was instituted on 21 April 1966 in three grades (Chief, Elder and Moran) to be awarded for distinguished services to the Republic of Kenya and is Kenya’s most senior award.
