Miniature circular cupro-nickel insignia with eight faceted lobes, points between the lobes, the upper reverse with loop for ribbon suspension; the face with a circular central gilt medallion bearing a lion rampant, a spear upright in its right paw, circumscribed ‘KENYA’ on the left-hand side, within a red enamel ring; the reverse plain; diameter 18.4mm (0.72 inch); on original ribbon cut short at the back. The Order was instituted on 21 April 1966 in three grades (Chief, Elder and Moran) to be awarded for services to the Republic of Kenya and is Kenya’s second most senior award.
