The Columbus Association was created in accordance with Articles 60 and thereafter of the Swiss Civil Code and is headquartered in Geneva. Its Statutes state ‘The object of the Association shall be to support and develop co-operation between European and Latin-American universities seeking to enhance institutional development through collaboration. In particular, the Association facilitates this contact and manages an inter-university Euro-Latin American programme known as ‘The Columbus Programme’ created in 1987 by C.R.E. and a group of Latin American universities gathered under A.U.L.A.. It can also carry out complementary activities that are compatible with its disinterested object and are useful or necessary to the realisation of the latter, such as publishing, lending of services or any act of estate management.’
