Miniature circular grey metal medal with laurel wreath and fixed ribbon bar suspension; the face with a five-pointed star imposed on a rayed background and bearing the coat of arms of Kuwait in relief; the reverse with a map of Kuwait, inscribed above ‘وسام التحرير’ (Liberation Medal) and dated ‘١٩٩١’ (1991); diameter 18.47 (0.73 inch); on original ribbon. The medal was instituted by the Kuwait Council of Ministers for award in five classes and offered by the Chief of Staff of the Kuwaiti Armed Forces on 16 July 1994 to those who had participated in the liberation of Kuwait from Iraqi occupation. The fourth class was awarded to warrant and junior commissioned officers.
