Miniature five-pointed gilt star, the points rounded, a laurel wreath between the arms, with fixed ribbon bar suspension decorated with laurel leaves; the face with the coat of arms of Kuwait in relief with black, red, white and green enamel escutcheon at the base; the reverse with a map of Kuwait, the circular wreath inscribed above ‘وسام التحرير’ (Liberation Medal) and dated ‘١٩٩١’ (1991) at the base; diameter 18.82 (0.74 inch); on original ribbon. The medal was instituted by the Kuwait Council of Ministers for award in five classes and offered by the Chief of Staff of the Kuwaiti Armed Forces on 16 July 1994 to those who had participated in the liberation of Kuwait from Iraqi occupation. The third class was awarded to middle-ranking officers.
