Miniature ten-pointed silver star, alternate faceted arms enamelled red and green, with graduated chiselled rays between the arms, on three-looped silver bow suspension; the face with a circular central green enamel medallion bearing the tughra of Ahmad II ibn Ali in silver Arabic characters (the tughra is inverted) within a faceted silver border; the reverse plain; diameter 19.82mm (0.78 inch); age-toned; on probably replaced correct ribbon with rosette denoting an award of the officer class. The Order, whose name means ‘The Order of Victory’, was instituted in 1837 by Ahmad I ibn Mustafa, Bey of Tunis and reformed in 1857 by his successor Muhammad II ibn al-Husayn. It was effectively the National Order of Tunis from its foundation until its suppression after independence in 1957. This fine example is from the reign of Ahmad II ibn Ali, 1929 to 1942.
