Miniature four-pointed silver star with graduated rays, with loop to the upper reverse for ribbon suspension; the face with a circular central polychrome enamel medallion with a lion passant guardant in a desert landscape, a scimitar in its right forepaw, a radiant sun beyond with five beams within concentric green and red enamel rings; the reverse plain; diameter 19.18mm (0.75 inch); on replaced ribbon. The Order was instituted in 1939 but has its origins in the Qajar Order of the Lion and the Sun pounded in the early 19th Century that was suppressed after the Pahlavis took power in 1925. The Order is rare in miniature.
