Miniature five-pointed faceted gilt star with ball-tipped finials and three graduated points between the arms, on laterally-pierced ball for ribbon suspension; the face with the emblem of the United Arab Emirates (1973 to 2008 version) with Arabic inscriptions above and below; the reverse with a map of the Gulf Cooperation Council states (Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates), six linked circles below representing the alliance of these countries, within a laurel wreath, Arabic inscriptions above and below; diameter 18.92mm (0.74 inch); on original ribbon. The Medal is awarded in two classes to members of the Federal Armed Forces of the United Arab Emirates in respect of service in support of the Gulf Cooperation Council. The Council was established at Abu Dhabi on 25 May 1981 as a political and economic union and its member forces co-ordinate resistance to potential outside intervention in its territory.
