Miniature circular cupro-nickel medal with laterally-pierced ball for ribbon suspension; the face with a Cacique crown centrally, circumscribed ‘ONE PEOPLE • ONE NATION • ONE DESTINY’ (motto of the Co-operative Republic of Guyana) and ‘GUYANA’ at the base; the reverse with crossed sabres centrally, circumscribed ‘MILITARY EFFICIENCY MEDAL’; diameter 18.42mm (0.72 inch); on original ribbon. The Medal was instituted in 1970 following Guyana becoming a republic and is awarded to members of the Guyana Defence Force, Guyana People's Militia and the Guyana National Service on completion of ten years’ efficient service.
