Miniature gilt five-pointed star with loop for ribbon suspension; the face with a circular central medallion with a four-pointed star, itself with a circular central medallion bearing a Cacique crown; the reverse inscribed ‘COURAGE’ centrally, three stylised leaves above and below, circumscribed ‘ONE PEOPLE • ONE NATION • ONE DESTINY’ (motto of the Co-operative Republic of Guyana) and ‘GUYANA’ at the base; diameter 18.84mm (0.74 inch); on original ribbon. The Order was instituted in 1970 following Guyana becoming a republic and since 1976 is the country’s third-ranking Order. It consists of three General Awards and three Special Awards, the Golden Arrow of Courage (A.C.) being a Special Award, the second-highest award for bravery and Order’s third-highest award, given for acts of bravery of a lesser degree than those recognized by the Cacique’s Crown of Valour.
