Miniature silvered metal octagonal medal with eyelet and suspension bar with a central radiant sun with fin-shaped decorations to either side; the face with a scroll centrally inscribed ‘COMMENDATION’ diagonally and imposed on sixteen graduated faceted rays within a laurel wreath; the reverse with the arms of the Republic of Namibia centrally; diameter 18.9mm (0.74 inch); on a ribbon with seven alternate white and blue vertical stripes, mounted for wear (the ribbon should have fifteen alternate stripes but such may not have been available in miniature). The Medal was instituted by the Police Act of 1990 to be awarded ‘to a member who has distinguished himself or herself by rendering continuous special service of a high order on the grounds of ability, efficiency, perseverance or devotion during discharge of duties in the Force’.
