Miniature cupro-nickel-edged pale blue enamel Greek cross with out-turned ends to the arms, with eyelet and ribbon suspension bar with flame lilies denoting a civilian award; the face with a centrally-imposed four-pointed faceted star with a circular central medallion bearing a Zimbabwe bird within a ring inscribed ‘FOR BRAVERY’ with laurel leaves above; the reverse plain silver; diameter 19.44mm (0.76 inch); on original ribbon. The Cross was instituted in October 1980 to replace the Silver Cross of Rhodesia and is Zimbabwe’s second-highest award for bravery. Versions exist for the Army, Air Force, Police, Prison Service and Civilians, each distinguished by the symbol on the suspension bar. The civilian version is rare.
