Miniature circular bronze medal on fixed ribbon bar suspension with an eagle with wings outstretched denoting an Air Force award; the face with the full-face head of an African lion; the reverse with the arms of Zimbabwe; diameter 16.18mm (0.64 inch); on the ribbon for a Police award (the Air Force ribbon has pale blue rather than yellow stripes). The Medal was instituted in October 1980 to be awarded to Air Force personnel for acts of bravery, commendable actions or devotion to duty. Versions exist for the Army, Air Force, Police, Prison Service and Civilians, each distinguished by the symbol on the suspension bar and by the ribbon.
