Miniature silver-gilt eight-pointed star with fixed ribbon bar suspension; the face with an eight-pointed star in relief centrally bearing the emblem of the Republic of the Sudan within a horseshoe-shaped border, an inscription in Arabic characters above, stylised laurel leaves to the right; the reverse plain matt gilt; diameter 19.33mm (0.76 inch); on original ribbon. The Order was instituted in 1974 in a single class and the Office of the President states that ‘this Order shall be awarded to Sudanese Nationals who devotedly defend the interests of the Democratic Republic of the Sudan, including its territories, sacrificing their lives or exposing the same to danger. It shall also be awarded to Sudanese who exert exceptional efforts resulting in the progress of the Sudanese people or the welfare thereof in any walk of life. The same person may be awarded the such Order more than once. It is worn on the left side of the breast and its accompanied by a miniature with the same specifications as the larger decoration. It shall be worn above the ribbons by the Military. The bearer of such Order shall have the following privileges. (a) To be invited to attend National Celebrations. (b) To meet the president of the Republic, vice presidents and Ministries. (c) To be offered facilities of medical care by the authorities concerned inside or outside The Sudan if the case so requires. (d) Shall not be arrested or detained without the permission of the President of the Republic, except in cases of being in the process of committing a crime’.
