Miniature white enamel and silver-gilt Maltese cross with ball-tipped finials, with green enamel and gilt laurel wreath between the arms, on laterally-pierced ball suspension; the face with a circular central gilt medallion with the head of Francisco Morazán facing left within a dark blue enamel ring inscribed in gilt letters ‘MORAZAN’, the arms of the cross with gilt-edged panels; the reverse plain gilt; diameter 14.99mm (0.59 inch); on original ribbon. The Order was instituted on 1 March 1941, one hundred years after the death of Francisco Morazán, and is awarded to recognise extraordinary achievement in both civil and military fields by both Hondurans and foreigners. Francisco Morazán (1792-1842) was instrumental in the five countries of Central America gaining their independence in 1821 and forming a loose federation in 1823. He was Head of State successively of Honduras, the Federation, El Salvador and Costa Rica. A good older example.
