Miniature circular gilt medal with loop for ribbon suspension; the face with the Libyan flag centrally above sand dunes and a radiant rising sun, broken chains around the edge; the reverse with an Arabic inscription and circumscription; diameter 18.31mm (0.72 inch); on original ribbon. The Medal was instituted by King Idris I to be awarded to those who fought against German and Italian forces between 9 August 1940, date of the creation of the Sanusi Army of Liberation, and 13 May 1943, date of the surrender of Axis forces in North Africa.
