Eight-pointed rayed convex white metal and red and blue enamel miniature star; the face with a central red enamel circular medallion bearing the two-tailed lion of Bohemia holding the coat of arms of Slovakia with patriarchal (two lateral arms) cross surrounded by a blue enamel circle inscribed ‘ZA VÍTÌZSTVÍ’ (For Victory) and bearing crossed swords; the reverse with a central medallion with the monogram ‘CSЯ’ (Czecho-Slovak Republic); diameter 20mm (¾ inch), wear marks visible under strong magnification; on original ribbon. The Order was created on 9 February 1945 and awarded to both Czechoslovak citizens and foreigners to recognise vital contributions in the victory over Nazi Germany. Its statutes state that it may be awarded for acts of bravery on the field of battle that had a decisive effect on the outcome or for outstanding leadership of major military units that contributed to victory. Miniature versions, such as the rare example here, are normally worn with evening wear on formal occasions.
