Miniature green enamel and gilt metal seven-pointed star with three faceted rays between each arm, on upward-facing crescent and star suspension; the face with a circular central red enamel medallion bearing a gilt upwards-facing crescent and inscribed ‘Relying on the Assistance of Almighty God, Abdulaziz Khan, Sovereign of the Ottoman Empire’; the reverse with a central circular gilt medallion bearing a trophy of arms and dated ‘AH. 699’, the year of the founding of the Ottoman Empire; diameter 19mm (¾ inch); in excellent condition with all enamel intact but for slight loss to the upper arm of the reverse; on original ribbon with rosette denoting an officer class award. The Order was instituted by Sultan Abdulaziz in January 1862 to be awarded to military and civilians for outstanding service to the Ottoman State. It was the second highest decoration of the Ottoman Empire. A rare miniature of superb quality.
