Miniature blackened stippled tombac cross pattée with eyelet and loop for ribbon suspension; the face with a gilt cross gammée imposed centrally; the reverse plain; diameter 15.23mm (0.6 inch); on original ribbon with white metal ‘Ilmatorjunta’ (Anti-Aircraft) clasp and with wire top loop for suspension.
The Cross was awarded to those who served in the Finnish Air Force during either the Winter War or the Continuation War of 1939 to 1944 and could be awarded with four different clasps.
The use of the cross gammée (swastika) in Finland pre-dates its adoption by the German National Socialist Party and is not connected with it.
