Miniature circular silver medal with integral crown suspension; the face with the head of King Christian X facing right, circumscribed ‘CHRISTIANUS X REX DANIÆ’ (Christian X King of the Danes), signed ‘HS’ (for H. Salomon); the reverse inscribed ‘PRO DANIA’ (for Denmark) and dated ‘1940-1945’ within a wreath of oak leaves; marked ‘SILVER’ on the edge; diameter 16mm (⅝ inch); on original ribbon. The medal, often known as ‘The Medal of Liberty’ and ‘The Pro Dania Medal’, was instituted on 5 May 1946 and awarded to Danes living abroad and to foreigners for exceptional service to Denmark during the German occupation of 1940 to 1945 and at the Liberation. A total of 3,102 full-size medals were struck; the number of miniatures would have been significantly less. A rare medal, especially in miniature.
