Bronze cross pattée with loops between the arms, on integral suspension of the monogram ‘R I’ surmounted by a crown; the face with a circular central medallion with the numbers ‘2’ and ‘5’ intertwined within a beaded border; the reverse plain; miniature (40mm by 20mm - 1½ inches by ¾ inch); on ladies’ bow ribbon in the colours of Denmark. The style of the cross and the surface pattern of the arms are similar to those of the Danish Faithful Service Decorations and the script of the monogram ‘R’ is identical to that used on Danish decorations to denote ‘Rex’ (Latin = king) but in this case it has not been used in conjunction with the initial of the king and the number ‘I’ does not correspond to a Danish king of recent times. It is therefore not possible to attribute it to a specific reign, though from its appearance it dates probably from the first third of the 20th Century. Miniature versions, such as the example here, are normally worn with evening wear on formal occasions.
