Miniature silver cross formy couped with silver crowns between the arms, the suspension with the crowned cipher of King Christian X; the face with the crowned cipher of King Christian V centrally, the left, upper, right and lower arms inscribed in silver letters ‘GUD’, ‘OG’, ‘KON’, ‘GEN’ respectively (God and King); the reverse with the crowned cipher of King Waldemar centrally, the crowned cipher of King Frederik VI on the upper arm, the left, right and lower arms dated ‘1219’, ‘1671’ and ‘1808’ respectively; height 22.95mm (0.9 inch), width 10mm (0.39 inch); on original ribbon in the Danish style. The Order was founded by King Christian V on 12 October 1671 and apocryphally based on that founded by King Waldemar in 1219. Initially limited to 50 holders, in 1808 the Order was extended by King Frederik VI to five classes and a silver cross. The order is awarded to both military and civilians, Danes and foreigners for conspicuous service and is in the gift of the Danish sovereign, advised by the government and by assemblies of citizens. The Silver Cross has not been issued since 1952. This good example dates from the reign of King Christian X, 1912 to 1947.
