Circular bronze medal with oak wreath suspension; the face with the head of King Haakon VII facing left and inscribed 'HAAKON VII’ and ‘ALT FOR NORGE’ (Everything for Norway); the reverse with the crowned ciphers of Haakon VII at either side, the inscription ‘KRIGSMEDALJE’ (War medal) at the top, oak branches below; diameter 17mm (11/16 inch); lacking ribbon. The medal was created on 23 May 1941 by the Norwegian government in exile following the German invasion and occupation of 9 April 1940 and was awarded to Norwegian and foreign military and civilians who participated in the efforts to achieve Norwegian liberation. Miniature versions of the medal are rare.
