Circular gilt metal medal with laterally-pierced ball for ribbon suspension; the face with the head of Mohammad Rezā Shāh Pahlavi, Shah of Iran facing left within a laurel wreath; the reverse with a view of the tomb of Cyrus the Great at Pasargadae within an inscription in Persian characters; on original ribbon with gilt-bronze Imperial crown device. We understand that the medal is the Military Education Medal, though we have been unable to establish further definitive information. Cyrus II (Cyrus the Great) was King of Persia from 559 BC to 530 BC and renowned for creating the then greatest empire the world had seen and for his enlightened rule. The medal is rarely seen.
