Small circular bronze medal with eyelet for suspension; the face with the Regimental badge of the Horse Artillery Regiment ‘Voloire’, being crossed cannon imposed on crossed sabres, a flaming grenade above; the reverse with a cavalryman in antique uniform galloping from right to left, circumscribed above ‘IN HOSTEM CELERRIME VOLANT’ (flying fastest against the enemy), dated ‘1831’ below and signed ‘SJ’ for Stefano Johnson of Milan; diameter 20.55mm (0.81 inch); without ribbon. The Regiment was founded at Milan on 8 April 1831 to give rapid and mobile artillery support to infantry.
