Circular silvered metal medal with integral loop for ribbon suspension; the face with the crowned arms of Savoy - a shield with vertical hatching denoting the heraldic colour gules (red) bearing a (white) cross and inscribed ‘AL VALORE CIVILE’ above; the reverse with a wreath of oak (denoting a civilian award); on replaced correct tricolour ribbon. The medal was instituted as early as 1851 to reward acts of bravery by civilians. This example is of the 4th type, awarded from 1930 until the fall of the Italian monarchy in 1944.
