Circular bronze medal with integral bar for ribbon suspension; the face with a full-length allegorical cloaked female figurehead, a staff in her right hand, a statue of Victory in her left; the reverse with a faceted five-pointed star centrally within a wreath of oak and laurel, inscribed above ‘GUERRA 1943-1945’; on original ribbon, the face slightly age-faded. The ribbon and a medal whose design was not specified for the war of liberation against occupying German forces were instituted on 21 April 1945 but it was not until 6 May 1959 that the award was finally instituted for those who had served a minimum of 3 months in the armed forces, had been wounded, had accomplished outstanding feats of arms or had been awarded the Valore Militare or the Croce al Merito di Guerra.
